Tate Modern
Bankside, London 020 7887 8000
Britain's national museum of modern art displays work from 1900 to the present. Not to be confused with the Tate Britain Museum, which has more traditional work. The Tate Modern, housed in the former Bankside Power Station on the Thames is by far the prettier, better-endowed and more popular sister. Included are major works from the likes of Matisse Dali, Picasso, Warhol and Rothko. A huge turbine hall foyer creates a stunning first impression and is often home to temporary displays. A spectacular glass roof provides breathtaking views of London whilst waltzing around the three floors or sitting out a dance at the café.
