Ask most Londoners to name their favourite form of physical activity, and you’ll probably hear something about working out the drinking arm around 5.30pm on a Friday afternoon. Although responses like this are intended to make light of the subject, they reveal couple of poignant facts about the British. Firstly, we are still too embarrassed to admit that we actually enjoy the act of sex. And secondly, partaking in vigorous sports and outdoor living runs a distant second to spirited drinking and indoor socializing when it comes to exerting our bodies.
Despite having more open space at our disposal than those in most other metropolises of the world, the average Londoner doesn’t feel the urge to apply themselves to sporty endeavors with any regularity. We may occasionally kick a football around with our mates; go for a stroll, jog or peddle through the park; or hit some sort of object with a bat, club or racquet, but only because we’ve heard that’s what people are supposed to do when the sun comes out. The wonderful result for you lot, is that there are all these activities and wonderful green spaces sitting here, twiddling their thumbs, just waiting for someone to come |
